Senior Accountant/Accounting Manager

Job Summary:   

The Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the full accounting cycle, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, supporting external audits, and maintaining strong internal controls across the organization. This role provides leadership within the Finance function, supports the development and implementation of accounting policies, and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure integrity and efficiency in financial operations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations

  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, including review of journal entries, accruals, provisions, and reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Review the general ledger and financial data to ensure compliance with internal policies and accounting standards.
  • Monitor and analyze financial results, identifying variances and providing meaningful insights and recommendations to management.

Internal Controls, Audit & Compliance

  • Maintain and enhance internal control frameworks to ensure compliance with corporate governance standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and support external audits, preparing working papers and managing auditor requests to ensure an efficient audit process.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate accounting policies, recommending and implementing updates as necessary.
  • Support tax compliance processes, including preparation of supporting documentation for corporate income tax, commodity taxes, and other regulatory filings.

Process Improvement & Leadership

  • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve accounting processes, financial reporting workflows, and system efficiencies.
  • Assist in developing and documenting accounting policies and procedures to support organizational growth and consistency.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior members of the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and professional environment.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities as required.

Skills, Abilities and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation required or in final stages of completion.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in a corporate environment, preferably with exposure to multi-entity or multi-jurisdictional structures.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and practical application in financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with Canadian corporate income tax and commodity tax legislation is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, assess, and recommend accounting treatment for complex or non-routine transactions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong ability to work with ERP/accounting systems; experience with financial reporting tools considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort drafting accounting memos and presenting findings.
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines, prioritize tasks, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively across departments.
  • Professional maturity, confidentiality, and sound judgment in handling sensitive information.
