Job Summary:

The Senior Manager, QSE provides a support role in the areas of Management Systems, Compliance and Continuous Improvement within the corporation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assumes the role of QSE Management Representative and Designated Person Ashore (DPA) within the Integrated Management System (IMS) for managed vessels.
  • Participates in and assigns shore based audits related to IMS activities.
  • Participates in and assigns shore based audits related to IMS activities.
  • Oversees internal audits of the fleet and office as arranged.
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of company QSE policies and procedures in QSE management tools, such as the Safety Management Manual (SMM).
  • Participates in the investigation of major incidents.
  • Provides analysis of occurrence reports to identify trends that be addressed through improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinates the delivery of shipboard safety training programs.
  • Project work as defined by the Director, Regulatory and Management Systems.
  • Assists in the role of Company Security Officer (CSO).

Skills, Abilities and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in QSE Management or equivalent work
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) designation.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a related position.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience in marine transportation logistics and/or shipboard operations is preferred.
  • Previous experience with employee engagement initiatives.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Self-motivated, able to work in a team environment and balance the needs of a number of individuals and the team.
  • Sound knowledge of quality and regulatory disciplines (ISM/ISO).
  • Ability to carry out incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to effectively develop and implement change.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Valid passport and driver’s license.
  • No travel restrictions.

Working Conditions:

  • Operates in an open office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers and phones.
  • Requires undertaking visits to vessels on location as required.
  • Requires ability to travel on occasion, some of which may be international.
  • Requires occasional after hour and weekend work.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb up and down vertical ladders and stairways.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Regularly required to talk/hear.
  • Daily use of standard office equipment, such as computers and phones.
  • Ability to occasionally lift equipment up to 20 pounds.
