We have an immediate opening for a Jr. Engineering Superintendent in our Tanker Fleet. The successful incumbent will work in the Engineering Department supporting Engineering Superintendents and shipboard operations in accordance with company policies and procedures, government regulations, and customer expectations.


The key responsibility of the Jr. Engineering Superintendent is to provide support to the Engineering Department. This role will include but is not limited to the following:

  • Providing support for the Engineering Superintendent’s administrative duties as assigned, including reviewing vessel delays and ship-out-of-service events, processing occurrences, generating requisitions, and budget monitoring of vessels;
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with stakeholders and external parties, such as customers, contractors, and suppliers;
  • Providing support during overhaul and dry-dock periods;
  • Performing specific projects as assigned related to shipboard maintenance;
  • Identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving complicated marine-related technical problems in a timely manner, using a creative, enquiring, and logical mind;
  • Performing system and productivity upgrades as well as efficiency improvements;
  • Working independently with minimal supervision and a high degree of self-motivation, both day-to-day as well as when leading marine-related major repairs, projects, and equipment installations;
  • Performing Jr. Engineering Superintendent responsibilities for a group of vessels when the Superintendent is unavailable, including dealing with engineering-related operational issues, oversight of maintenance and repair activities, arrangement and management of shoreside contractors, and various administrative and other functions necessary to support vessel operations;
  • In addition to supporting Engineering Superintendents, the Jr. Engineering Superintendent may be required to support others in the Engineering Department;
  • Providing on-call support to the fleet once deemed capable;
  • Carrying out incident and mechanical failure repairs, breakdown investigations and analysis;
  • Extensive travel and field work is required, which will include carrying out duties consistent with the position outside normal business hours


  • Post-secondary education in Marine Engineering and an Engineering Certificate of Competency is required
  • 5+ years of experience in the marine engineering industry and 3+ years’ experience with product tankers are required
  • 2+ years’ experience in dry dockings is required
  • A high degree of safety awareness and experience ensuring safety of crews and vessels
  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret marine-vessel-specific technical information and drawings and to carry out incident and mechanical failure repairs, breakdown investigations and analysis
  • Project management skills including organization, planning, and prioritization, demonstrated through successful dry dockings and marine-related major repairs, projects, and equipment installations
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy as it relates to equipment troubleshooting, repairs, and installations
  • Proven ability to remain calm under pressure, particularly as it relates to marine emergencies and major equipment breakdowns
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as well as outside of regular business hours as required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication skills in English (verbal and written)
  • Operational knowledge of Great Lakes and Coastal shipping is an asset
